Knitted fabric is the material of choice for sportswear because it offers a number of advantages over woven fabrics: Stretch and Flexibility: Sportswear needs to allow for a full range of movement, which knitted fabric provides effortlessly. Comfort: The softness of knitted fabric enhances comfort, which is crucial for athletes and active individuals. Breathability: Knitted fabric can breathe better, keeping the wearer cooler and more comfortable during intense activities.

The use of cotton has a long tradition in the clothing industry due to its desirable characteristics. Cloths made of this fiber are moisture-absorbent, have a good drape and are known for their long durability. Consumers continue to purchase large amounts of cotton products as they prefer cotton’s light and comfortable qualities. Products made out of cotton range from highly absorbent bath towels over bed linens to basic clothes such as t-shirts, underwear or socks.

Major difference between knitting and weaving is thread formation. Knitting is interlooping of threads while weaving is interlacing of threads. In woven fabric the horizontal threads are known as weft and vertical threads are known as warp. In knitting, the vertical lines are called as wales and horizontal ones are course. The elasticity and permeability of knitted fabric is more and it stretches according to the physical activities of body. The dimensional stability of woven fabric is more compared to knitted. The basic weaves in woven fabric are plain, twill and satin. In knitting, the basic structures are single Jersey, interlock, purl and rib.
