Major difference between knitting and weaving is thread formation. Knitting is interlooping of threads while weaving is interlacing of threads. In woven fabric the horizontal threads are known as weft and vertical threads are known as warp. In knitting, the vertical lines are called as wales and horizontal ones are course. The elasticity and permeability of knitted fabric is more and it stretches according to the physical activities of body. The dimensional stability of woven fabric is more compared to knitted. The basic weaves in woven fabric are plain, twill and satin. In knitting, the basic structures are single Jersey, interlock, purl and rib.
